Lena Headey – The Queen Gorgo

Lena Headey played the Queen Gorgo in the movie 300. She comes with an impressive background. Of British origin, she was born on October 3, 1973 to a Yorkshire police cadet, shortly after he was transferred to Bermuda. She lived there until she was five and then moved back to England where she lived in the Yorkshire area. She was first discovered, at the age of 17, by an agent while in a school production with several of her friends at the Royal National Theatre. This eventually led to her first role in the movie Waterland in 1992. She has since played impressive roles in many other movies, including The Brothers Grimm, released in 2005, and Possession, released in 2002. She has also recently played Sarah Connor on FOX’s The Terminator: The Chronicles of Sarah Connor. Over her career she has played many roles in both movies and film and has even done voice over work for The Cartoon Network on a show called The Super Hero Squad Show.

In the movie 300, Lena Headey plays the character of Queen Gorgo, one of the very few female roles in the movie. Because this is one of the few female roles in the movie 300, Lena Headey had to have an outstanding performance to stand out. If there was ever a supporting role that would allow an actress to stand out this would be it.

Queen Gorgo was the daughter of Cleomenes, the first King of Sparta. She later became the wife of King Leonides, the second King of Sparta. King Leonides was also her half-uncle. Throughout her marriage to King Leonides, she gave birth to at least one child – a son – who would later become the third King of Sparta. Her son’s name was Pleistarchus.

Queen Gorgo was an impressive woman that was wise and very supportive of her husband. Herodutus himself made mention of her and he made mention of very few women of history. She was mentioned because of her political acumen and wisdom.

One of her most impressive scenes in the movie was when she had to address the Spartan Council. She approaches them with humility to speak on behalf of the families of the 300 men that went into war. She speaks of justice, law and order, and hope to inspire the people to send their army off to battle. She delivers her speech with authenticity and believability that not all actresses would be capable of.

Lena Headey does a fabulous job playing the role of Queen Gorgo in the movie 300. In a movie that is filled with testosterone and male actors that can steal away our attention with their bravado and their action scenes, Lena Headey does a fabulous job. She doesn’t compete with them but she plays her role with the skills that make her a fabulous actress – her feminine appeal and her ability to speak with drama and intensity. While there were many actresses that wanted the part of Queen Gorgo, Lena Headey played the role with passion and intensity that showed that she was the best woman for the job.
